On July 23, 2025, Stanford hosted the Ophthalmic Innovation Symposium and Workshop—“From Concept to Clinic”—in partnership with the Collaborative Community on Ophthalmic Innovation (CCOI). Jim Mazzo emphasized a central challenge: despite remarkable advances, global blindness continued to rise, reflecting fragmented efforts and isolated stakeholders.
Through CCOI, the summit fostered an open and transparent ecosystem where academia, industry, clinicians, regulators, and patients worked together. With tools such as AI, real-world evidence, and advanced diagnostics, the initiative aimed to accelerate the translation of innovation into clinical impact worldwide.
